Snow Day! It is a little silly to be having a snowy morning in mid March but why not make the best of it. I got a new phone recently with a great built in camera, but my trusty standard camera is giving me a few fits, so these photo’s are all a bit of a test. I busted out my gradated background this morning to try out the resolution and contrast on my new phone with mixed results. I need to figure out how to make it all less… “grainy”? It is a work in progress, but I am confident I can keep making improvements. It is a weird area that some show’s still want the professional black to white background photos, while some shows want more “personal” photo’s of you work, with a bit more personality and uniqueness. Then add on top of that photo’s for selling work online and… well it gets a big daunting! Here are just a few photo’s of what I have been up to lately as well as a few photos I took this morning with my phone and the background.

Also new are these business cards I have been working on the last few snowy weeks. Hopefully they will arrive in the next few days.
Business Card 2014
During the winter at LibertyTown almost all time to spend making pottery is spent making, glazing and donating bowls to EmptyBowls. It is a great event and a very worth while cause, but it doesn’t leave much time for making other things in January. What I have been working on aside from bowls have been vases.
Some fairly traditional:
And some vase/flower brick hybrids for fun:
I will post more images once they are through the glaze firings. For the rest of the week though, I am taking some time to throw mugs that are just for me and just for fun, mostly tests… without the pressure of donating them or selling them 🙂
This fall has FLOWN by! We are in the middle of a major kitchen renovation here at home and I have been working away at the studio lots of early mornings to try and keep up with the holiday orders and preparing for my upcoming show at Handmade Holiday in Richmond VA.
I have finally finished an order for 50 Christmas ornaments for a school district, as well as another 70+ ornaments for my studio/sale. I have two more holiday commissions coming due soon, then all my attention can shift from production mode into exploring mode. I have a few new forms and a new glaze that is calling to me in early 2014.
Come visit me at Handmade Holiday!

Not a lot to say around here right now, though there is a lot of work happening in the studio. I have been working on some new forms, as well as some new surface techniques. Lately I’ve been testing screen printing with slip/underglaze onto tissue paper and then transferring these images onto some simple sided pots. I haven’t gotten any results all the way though the firings yet, but so far I am enjoying it. It adds another step in the process however, which adds time, time I sometimes do not have! We will see where this testing takes me, but for now here are some new images.

It’s picking up around here headed towards the holidays. I’m heading into the studio in a few minutes to start on a commission and to continue working on Christmas ornaments (don’t call me crazy… I started in August). Here are a few new pictures of some mini stacking bowls I made recently. I imagine these sold as sets of three, but they are for sale individually for $10 each. They are the perfect size for sea salt or olive oil on the table, tea bags, or for catching your rings and earrings on the nightstand or by the sink. These will be one of the first items for sale in my online shop coming later this week! Have a great weekend everyone!
